We didn't even have anything there, really. I spent a lot of time stealing pumpkins and shit like that to feed them. I think they used to hunt my lab cats for food too.

It really is. Like, I dunno if you've tried it before but there are only certain things you can steal and not create a paradox. Pumpkins are usually one, then random things like Jake's journal or Janey's joke book.

Judging by the accommodation of sylladices and similar universe-specific constructs... I think that there would be the kind of space a relatively independent universe would incorporate into any of its transportalisation devices. Maybe just a less dark-god-affiliated variety?

I guess so. Since that's what happens, even if travelling between the two is instant, for the person doing the actual travelling you lose time between them.
